The design brief
The client's wish list for the garden
This project is our second recently completed garden transformation in Findon Valley for a couple who moved into their home a few years prior but were unsure how to begin designing the garden. The outdoor space consisted of uneven ground, a leaning Pittosporum shaped by the coastal winds, and little shelter from the elements.
The clients envisioned a calm, inviting space where they could enjoy the evening sun, gather around a fire pit with family and grandschildren, and take a gentle path leading to their new garden office. Their brief called for a low-maintenance garden with coastal-inspired, textured planting that would soften the sloping terrain and create a seamless journey from the home to the workspace.
Studio Hummingbird provided a clear vision, helping the clients avoid costly mistakes and giving them the confidence to proceed. The design focused on creating functional zones for relaxation and productivity, paired with resilient, layered planting that suits the exposed site.
