Project in Ashington

The design brief

The client's wish list for the garden

When Studio Hummingbird took on this garden design project, our clients had one main goal: enhancing the curb appeal of their front garden to create an inviting first impression. They wanted a modern, welcoming entrance with a fresh look that would immediately add charm and style to their home. A key part of this vision was a new tiled pathway to the front door, paired with interesting, carefully chosen planting to create a memorable and low-maintenance front garden.

Like many clients, they initially struggled to visualise how to bring this curb appeal vision to life. They hoped to avoid costly mistakes by choosing the right materials and layout from the start. Studio Hummingbird’s approach to garden design always prioritises clarity and cohesion, so we were excited to guide them through each choice and help them achieve a beautiful front garden they could feel confident in.

Garden Design for Curb Appeal: Creating a Welcoming Front Garden

After Victoria’s initial site visit, it was clear that achieving curb appeal for this front garden required a mix of beauty, functionality, and low-maintenance elegance. The entrance area needed to make a statement, creating a sense of anticipation while being easy to care for throughout the year.

Victoria started by selecting a tiled pathway in a geometric pattern that complemented the home’s architecture while adding an inviting touch. This new pathway became the focal point, enhancing curb appeal and leading visitors naturally to the front door. We also added layered planting to frame the path and entrance, creating a front garden full of seasonal interest that’s beautiful year-round.

Thoughtful Planting for a Beautiful Front Garden

To keep the front garden appealing and practical, we selected a mix of plants, including evergreen Cypress, textured grasses, and Hydrangeas. This balanced mix ensured curb appeal in all seasons, with layers of height and texture that provide structure even in winter. The plants were chosen specifically to suit the front garden’s light and soil conditions, ensuring they would thrive without excessive maintenance.

To finish off the look, we added a few statement lights at the front door.

The Result: A Front Garden that Delivers Curb Appeal

This front garden design provides an inviting entrance with fresh curb appeal, welcoming guests and enhancing the home’s exterior. The tiled pathway and carefully designed planting not only complemented the home’s style but created a sense of warmth and charm. Most importantly, our clients felt assured that each choice—from the path tiles to the plants—was made with their vision, budget, and lifestyle in mind.

This project captures what Studio Hummingbird aims to achieve in all of our designs: turning a simple front garden into a welcoming, beautiful space that showcases each client’s unique style.
